Rodgers, however, is a close third. The election could
definitely prove interesting." Edward's brown eyes landed on
Eden. He noticed the way his son looked at the woman. The
two were in love. He looked at the love of his life and smiled.
Joyce was still a beautiful woman. He knew people didn't see
what he saw in her, but what they shared was priceless, and
that was the way his son looked at Eden. "How are you
handling all of the publicity? I guess it's not your usual
    relationship?"
"I think I'm handling things well. The press makes me a
little nervous with all their questions and picture taking, but
    other than that, I'm okay."
"The press can be a brutal bunch," Belle added. "One
minute they're your best ally, then the next your enemy."
Eden's eyes connected with Belle's. She knew the woman
spoke the truth, but prayed Chase wouldn't find himself on
the receiving end of their viciousness.
Stanley Elliot spotted the Mathews' huddled by the
fireplace. He cut a path in their direction. He frowned when he
spotted Eden laughing with Joyce and Edward. The woman
was a problem that had to be dealt with, and soon. The
polling numbers were okay, but they could be better, if he
had all of Chase's attention. There had to be a way to remove
    the woman from the picture.
"Good evening, everyone," Stanley greeted the Mathews'.
He didn't look in Eden's direction, an act that wasn't missed
by her or Belle. "Did you see the polling numbers?" he
    directed the question to Chase.

"Yes. We were just discussing them."
"We'll have to get out there and work hard to pull them up.
Sacrifices will have to be made if you want to win this
election. Nelson is going to be tough to beat; especially now
with his latest accusation spreading like wildfire."
"What accusations?" Edward asked. He looked at his son
    for answers.
    "I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about,
    Stanley," Chase informed his manager.
"Oh, you must have missed the news this evening."
"Stanley, please," Chase said, trying to get to the point.
"Nelson is accusing you of using Eden to gain the
    AfricanAmerican vote."
Eden groaned as she reached out and took Chase's arm.
"I'm sorry about this. I never expected Mr. Nelson of exposing
    Owen's accusation."
Stanley watched Chase for a response. He could tell he
was angry. Maybe now he would realize being with Eden was
    damaging to his campaign.
"You have nothing to apologize for," Edward told Eden.
"Anyone who looks at you two can tell you're in love." Eden
and Chase looked at each other. They hadn't placed a label on
their feelings, but neither denied his statement.
"Dad's right. This isn't your doing, sweetheart, and we'll
weather this storm together. The voters are smart enough to
ignore the accusations and study the facts for themselves.
Now, tonight is a celebration and I suggest we get back to
    celebrating."

Stanley swore under his breath. What did it take to get rid
of this woman? He excused himself in search of a waiter with
a drink. He spotted Crystal chatting up one of the campaign
contributors and headed in her direction
The countdown to the new year was upon them. The
waiters made sure everyone possessed champagne and party
favors. At the stroke of midnight, Happy New Year rang
throughout the estate. Couples kissed in the new year while
streamers and confetti rained down. Chase pulled Eden into
his arms and released a handful of confetti over their heads
as he claimed her lips for the traditional kiss. When they
parted, both were ready to do a little private celebrating.
They managed to smile and carry on chitchat for another hour
    before making their goodbyes.

    Chapter Twelve
Eden and Chase fell through the door of her home reaching
for each other. Their mouths connected the moment the door
closed behind them. Chase devoured Eden's lips while
stripping off her coat. The garment fell to the floor as he
swept her into his arms and carried her into the kitchen. He
deposited his lovely bundle on the center island. He waved
the bottle of champagne his parents had given them in his
hand. His smile was of the devil's making, and Eden quivered
    with anticipation.
"What do you plan on doing with that?" Her eyes
    challenged him to be creative.
"I intend to have a toast." He licked his lips suggestively.
Eden's eyes were dreamy. Her lips spread into a sexy
smile, tempting him with their lushness. "Glasses are behind
you," she pointed to the appropriate cabinet while holding his
    gaze.
    "I don't need a glass."
    "No?"
"No." Chase grabbed Eden's hips and pulled her forward on
the island. He covered her mouth once more, as he took his
time kissing her. His tongue slid between her welcoming lips
to frolic in the sweetness of her mouth. When her tongue
engaged him in the mating ritual, he groaned with a burning
desire to taste every inch of her. His hands found the zipper
on her dress and eased it down. He peeled the dress from her
shoulders and down her torso, allowing it to pool around her

waist. The strapless bra was next. He dipped his head to
capture a dark nipple between his teeth while he worked the
dress lower onto her hips. He groaned when he had to free
the nipple to assist her in getting rid of the dress.
Eden shivered with need as Chase removed the dress from
her hips. She sat in black lace panties and nothing else.
He leaned against the opposite counter, looking his fill. The
sight of her long legs was enough to make him hard as a
rock. "God, you're sexy." He licked his lips while skillfully
popping the champagne cork. White froth spilled over his
hands before he turned the bottle up to his mouth and drank
from it. "Would you like some?" he asked, wiping his mouth
with the back of his hand.
"I'd love some," Eden purred, wantonly. Her pulse
escalated as Chase slowly pushed from the cabinet to take
the few steps to the island. He held the bottle to her lips and
poured. Champagne flowed into her mouth, spilling from the
corners to run down her chin and neck, to finally pool on her [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
